Project 999 Memorial Bike Ride

Founding Date

Project 999 was founded in 1980 by Orange County Sheriff Brad Gates and the Memorial Ride was founded in 2001 by Orange County Sheriff Lieutenant Daryl Poncy.

Overview

The Project 999 Memorial Bicycle Ride began in 2001. It is a fundraiser for the 999 Foundation, but it is also a way of honoring those who have given their lives in the line of duty. Since its inception, the 999 Foundation has raised and contributed more than $2 million.

Mission

Each May, officers from law enforcement agencies throughout Orange County participate in the Project 999 Memorial Bicycle Ride. They cycle 630 miles over five days from the Peace Officers’ Memorial at the State Capitol in Sacramento to the Peace Officers’ Memorial at the Orange County Sheriff’s Training Academy in Tustin. Each rider rides in the name of an officer who has fallen in the line of duty.

We ask that you join us in helping the families of these police officers through difficult times and honoring the lives of those who have fallen by becoming a sponsor of the Project 999 Memorial Ride. There are various ways you can help the Project 999 Memorial Ride. You may sponsor a rider, provide goods and services for the ride, make a donation of an item for the Opportunity Drawing, which is used as an incentive to support the cause, or make a donation in any amount either for the fund or in the name of a fallen officer. All monies donated to the Project 999 Memorial Ride go toward helping the families of Orange County Peace Officers killed or injured in the line of duty.

Why Contribute to the Project 999 Memorial Ride?
Through your donations, you can help with funeral expenses, airfare and hotel expenses for family members, home repairs, and unanticipated costs such as helping retrofit a home for wheelchair access for an officer shot and paralyzed while on duty. You can help bring a moment of joy and a smile to the faces of children who have lost a parent in law enforcement through special events.
